The New Paradigm

OK, here goes nothing.

I'm rethinking a lot of stuff. So here is an overview of those thoughts.

1.) I'm no longer in a club or have access to a large layout, so my huge
numbers of so-so box cars are mostly surplus except for ones with some
sentimental value like some I got from pals, Bill Crain, the Docken's, or
my Arizona Southern cars.

2.) Since these other cars are surplus, I need to move them to other homes.

3.) Since the next layout plan will be mostly switching and not made with
continuous running in mind, I can have fewer but nicer cars, as I'll be the
sole operator much of the time. For instance, the Moloco SP RBL's with the
10' offset plug doors. Sure they will be about $55 each, but if one factors
in the costs of bashing these, well I never could and even if kits I may not
live long enough to complete the few I want to have; logic wins out again.

4.) Back when I had money, I bought a bunch of Genesis SP and SSW box
cars which are about as good as I can ask for considering details and such.
I have also been buying Genesis acid tank cars and back dating them to my
era and these have the nice details also; all I do is change a few decals and
weather these, which is my plan for newer nice cars I'm picking up. I now
also have quite a few of the SP and SSW 62' bulkheads, also nicely detailed,
so why would I wish to go backwards to the less detailed cars? Again, I won't
need a bazillion cars for a small switching layout, even if two levels. I will
need specific car types, but most I already have, like the 2 copper ore unit
trains.

5.) Planned industries include 2 copper smelters, a big carbon black plant, a
few background buildings as the back drop to include food service and general
chemical and warehouse type customers, a very large cement plant, and one
structure to represent Athearn's factory that has moved out of Kalifornia.

6.) Life is too short, too tentative to continue being responsible and prudent.
I spent my life being that way and what do I have to show for it, everything
I worked for and saved for was taken from me by lawyers and other thieves.
So why continue to deny myself a few nicer cars if in the final analysis nothing
is forever.

7.) My roster will be way smaller then before; quality and not quantity is the
new paradigm. Scenery and photography are also very enjoyable, so why not
make the best of things that I prefer doing?
