One Man's Trash

Not sure who said it first, and it really does not matter, but that
old saying "One man's trash is another man's treasure" is still alive
and well. Now in reality, the Arizona Southern is not power short, we
have more power than we can realistically ever use. That being the case
why did we just "rescue" an old Life-Like P2K FA-2 that was basically
a basket case? The price was right, basically paying for what the motor
and wheels were worth; with the replacement of the 4 axle gears that we
all know come pre-split (or so it seems) the poor hangar queen runs very
smooth and quiet again. A few damaged areas have been repaired as needed
and the next step will be "fixing" the roof and then off to paint.

I suppose the main idea was something to "play around with", in case it
ends up in a fail, well I'm not out too much bread. You see some of the
details parts are MIA, most notably the cooling fan assembly and that
Alco trademark item, the black smoke spewing vent (aka the exhaust).
(OH, I do not suppose anybody has a spare P2K FA Radiator fan shroud
lying about do they? Or know the part number?)

For some silly reason, this iteration of FA comes with an opening rear
door and rotating fan for the radiator, not sure why, but there they are,
or were; were is better said now. I do think if I removed the support
"box" for that fan, it will result in an elevated platform to mount one
of those new fangled speaker enclosures on top of, so this might actually
be a good thing after all. Only time will tell, but the plan is in motion.

Who among us does not have an available motive power ratio that would have
made any 1:1 scale hostler or yardmaster enviable? Engines are just cool!
